The Buzz attended the latest PaleyLive program, “30 Years of Everybody Loves Raymond: An Evening with the Legends of the Classic Sitcom.” It featured some of the creative team behind the Emmy-Award winning series reliving some memorable moments, laughs, and behind the scenes stories that is still popular today. The Paley Museum also has an exhibit to celebrate the series which has costumes worn on the show, scripts, behind the scenes photos, and Emmy Award statuettes. We had the pleasure of speaking with the talent that attended this special event.
Writer Aaron Shure shared with us about how the “10th Anniversary” episode was based on a real-life situation, and also why it was his favorite episode to write:
“In the episode, Ray tapes over their wedding anniversary video. Phil (Rosenthal) encouraged us to bring stuff from our own lives. That was something that I actually did on my first wedding anniversary. We put in the VHS tape and discovered I had taped over our wedding with an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond! I just became a writer and was researching the show. Phil heard about this and hired me.”
We then discussed my favorite episode of the show, “She’s the One,” which aired during season 7. It was at the moment when Robert finally felt he hit rock bottom, a side of Frank Barone was seen that really broke me. Shure talked about Peter Boyle in that scene:
“That was Peter’s strength. He had that heart. You knew it was in there. He could give you all that gruff, give you all the mean, but deep down was that heart. That was great work from Peter.”
