Dame Helen Mirren to be Honored with Cecil B. DeMille Award

The Golden Globes® announced today that this year’s honoree of the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award will be Dame Helen Mirren. This will be presented at the first ever “Golden Eve” annual primetime celebration special. Airing during Golden Week, “Golden Eve” offers viewers a unique look at the legacy, personal stories, and Golden Globe moments of the honoree(s) of the Cecil B. DeMille and Carol Burnett Award. Watch never-before-seen footage, career retrospectives, and in-depth conversations during this special.

Helen Hoehne, President of the Golden Globes released a statement on today’s news:

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature and her career is nothing short of extraordinary. Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike. It is a profound honor to present her with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.”

First created in 1952 and honoring the eponymous director, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has been bestowed on 69 honorees drawn from Hollywood’s greatest and most iconic talents, including Walt Disney, Audrey Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey.

The Carol Burnett Award, created in 2019 and initially awarded to its namesake, is presented to an honoree who has made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen. The recipient is selected based on their body of work and the lasting impact of their television career achievements on both the industry and audiences. 

For over six decades, Dame Mirren won a Golden Globe for her performance of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as numerous accolades spanning across the Primetime Emmy Awards, the Tony Awards, SAG-AFTRA Awards, The Oscars, plus others. She was appointed a Dame of the British Empire in 2003 for her contributions and acknowledgement of her artistic achievements.

“Golden Eve” is set to air on Thursday, January 8th, at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+.
