Michael Caruso, a man of many talents in the online world, stars as Jason DeVanity in the hit online web series, “DeVanity.” He also is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the series. This past Wednesday, We Love Soaps TV aired a special episode highlighting the nominees of the 5th Annual Indie Series Awards, with “DeVanity” being honored with a total of 7 nominations, including one for “Best Web Series.” The show’s fourth and final season premieres this Thursday, February 13, and we were excited to finally have on Caruso at THE BUZZ to chat with us about the creation of “DeVanity.”

“I’ve always been a fan of the super-soaps of the 1980s. My grandmother lived for ‘Falcon Crest.’ The world would stop when she would watch the show, and it was a big thing for her. When I was in college, there was a network called TNN, and they re-aired the entire original series of ‘DALLAS.’ I was obsessed with this show, and thought it was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen. When I came to L.A. nine years ago, I basically wanted to create a show that I would like to be on. My wife and I live by a jewelry district, and I said, ‘You know, no one has ever done a series about jewelers.’ The best dramas have something worth fighting over. I think that a jewelry company is great, because you have something that people want to fight to the death over. That was how ‘DeVanity’ was born.”

This upcoming season will feature special guests from former primetime and daytime soaps including Steve Kanaly, Charlene Titlon, Andrea Evans, and Sheree J. Wilson. Caruso teased us a little bit as to what viewers can expect from season four:

“Season four is the one I am the most proud of. We worked so hard on this. It’s going to be a shocking season for the show. There will be a lot of surprises for the audience. I think it is a great way to say, ‘Goodbye,’ to the family. I will say that the series finale is left a little, little bit open. So, if we take a couple years off, and I wake up one morning and say, ‘I want to revisit this,’ we can. That’s the beauty of being on the web as opposed to television.”

I am very excited for the season premiere of “DeVanity,” and looking forward to all the twists and turns coming up. Caruso also informed us in the podcast to expect longer episodes this season, ranging from 21-22 minutes.
