Last week, The BUZZ had the opportunity to speak with the cast and crew of the Apple TV+ series, “Shrinking,” at the Writers Guild Theater as a part of the Paley Center for Media’s PaleyLive Program. The show, currently airing its second season, was renewed for a third back in October. This diverse cast deals with life struggles including mental health, PTSD, love, family, and friendships.
Lukita Maxwell plays the role of Alice, daughter of Jimmy (Jason Segel). Her relationship with her father has been strained ever since her mother was killed by a drunk driver. Some inroads have been made, but more obstacles present itself, including the drunk driver, Louis (Brett Goldstein), coming back into her life. We talked with Maxwell about Alice’s strained relationship with Jimmy, how Louis will affect things, and what I thought the show should have been called.

NaVell J. Lee: I keep thinking about Alice and Jimmy’s relationship. It seems that they take one step forward, but somehow take 75,000 steps backward. Is there going to be some common ground between the two? Somewhere? Anywhere?
Lukita Maxwell: *laughs* Maybe. Maybe not. It provides a better show dynamic. I think there will always be ups and downs between Jimmy and Alice. It’s that father/daughter duo. Hopefully, we will find more peace in season three, but I like the feisty stuff. It makes a more fun storyline.
NJL: I agree. I do like that chemistry. Now, I have to say…and this is a funny thought of mine I had…I seriously thought the show should be renamed to, “F**K,” as that word is said in an episode at least 50 times!
LM: That’s funny. That is the one note I get from my parents’ friends who watch the show. Even my friends back home who watch, they say, “You guys say ‘F**K’ a lot.” I say that in my every day life…Sorry, Mom…
*turns and sees Harrison Ford standing next to her*
LM: Look at this guy. *blows air kiss to HF* Love him! But yeah… we say F**K a lot!
NJL: A lot. However, I am so happy for the show, and being picked up for a third season. Let’s hope for some peace in season three, especially as Jimmy ruined Alice’s 18th birthday. Lukita, thank you so much! It was a pleasure.
