Wishful Casting: Kelly Monaco as Mackenzie Browning on “The Young and the Restless”

After the news broke that longtime “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco was fired from the show, fans have been expressing their upset and petitioning her return. However, what if she landed at another daytime drama? Could she show up on another network?

Monaco began her soap stardom on the “GH” spinoff, “Port Charles,” as Livvie Locke. She played the role from 2000 until the final episode in 2003. The actress earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for the character of Livvie. Monaco then landed the role of Sam McCall on “GH,” and also earned a nomination in this role. She would be involved in numerous storylines during her tenure at the ABC network.

Several hashtags came into the limelight on X, including #NoKellyNoGH, #SavetheCast, #IStandwithKelly. With her imminent exit, would fans take to a possible new character for her on another soap?

One suggestion that came to mind that I, and a few others, had was Mackenzie Browning on, “The Young and the Restless.” Mackenzie is the granddaughter of grand dame, Katherine Chancellor. She was a spitfire, rough around the edges, but she loved hard. Mackenzie could return to Genoa City during the Chancellor-Abbott war, potential animosity between her and Billy Abbott, and a tense relationship with Devon Hamilton. Could the show revisit Mackenzie’s relationship with JT Hellstrom? Amazing material for Monaco to play.

This would land to her reunion with Jason Thompson, as the two played romantic love interests on “GH” as Sam and Patrick Drake.

The character of Mackenzie was originated by Ashley Bashioum. Kelly Kruger, Rachel Kimsey, and Clementine Ford played the role following.
