Meredith Baxter, who many TV fans remember as Elyse Keaton from “Family Ties,” is set to join the CBS Daytime soap, “The Young and the Restless.” Baxter will be playing the part of Maureen, and will be kicking back a few with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), TV Guide reports.

A CBS rep released this statement on the character of Maureen:

“Charming, intelligent, middle-class woman who has always aspired to a more privileged life than she’s had. She appears kind and sympathetic, but can be quite manipulative. She is skilled at getting people to do the things she wants them to do by making them think it’s their idea!” Adds the rep: “When not hitting the sauce with her new drinking-buddy, Nikki, Maureen will be crossing with several key players on the Y&R canvas.”

Aside from her role on “Ties,” Baxter received acclaim for her role in the television movie, “A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story,” and garnered her an Emmy nomination.

Look for Meredith Baxter to shake things up in Genoa City this fall, beginning on September 8, 2014.
