LOS ANGELES, CA (March 21, 2013) —The Guild of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) presents its annual Accessories for Success Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show featuring an informal fashion show from Kyle by Alene Too, Friday, April 11, 2014 at The Beverly Hills Hotel.  Honorees include Sandra Stern, COO of Lionsgate Television; Lee Phillip Bell, Co-Creator, of Emmy® award-winning daily dramas, “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Emmy® Award-winning Host of “The Lee Phillip Show;” and Brindell Roberts Gottlieb, community activist and humanitarian.  Five-time Emmy® Award-winning actress Heather Tom will emcee.  Barbara Lazaroff, Lori McCreary and Nina Shaw serve as Honorary Co-Chairs; Guild members Christine Harte and Teri Simpson Co-Chair.  Mary Willard is Guild President.

 

Prior to the luncheon, luxury accessories boutique vendors will feature fashionable accessories for purchase with a portion of proceeds from sales donated to BBBSLA.  Featured are Art Couture, Caryn, Moonlite, Borrowed Bling, Chic By Design, Classy Bag Lady, Treasured Accessory, Accessor Eyes, Dawn Michelle Designs, Kiki Bean & BedHead, Over The Top, Two Gems and Gourmet Blends.

 

The luncheon will feature an informal fashion show by Kyle by Alene Too and styled by Rosana, a Los Angeles based film industry stylist.  Kyle by Alene Too is a premier luxury women’s boutique in Beverly Hills and a leading shopping destination online. Actor John McCook of “The Bold and the Beautiful” and actor Doug Davidson of “The Young and the Restless” will present the Innovator Award to Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and producer, Lee Phillip Bell, co-creator, with her late husband William Bell, of two of daytime television’s most successful dramas:  “The Young and The Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”  Bell’s career as a groundbreaking female broadcast journalist began in Chicago, where she produced and hosted “The Lee Phillip Show” for WBBM Television, CBS 2 for more than 30 years.  She was also a contributing editor to “Daybreak,” and continued to produce and narrate numerous award-winning specials and documentaries covering social concerns. During the course of her career, Bell has interviewed U.S. presidents, foreign heads-of-state, many first ladies, motion picture and television legends, world renowned musicians, notable physicians and scholars and trend setters in the fashion world. Known as The First Lady of Chicago, Bell sat on the Board of Directors for the Wm.Wrigley, Jr. Company.  During the course of her career in broadcast, Bell brought important social plights to the forefront of her programming, in combination with her husband, the late William J. Bell. She is a Life Trustee of Northwestern University “The Bold and the Beautiful,” which, celebrates its 27thanniversary on March 23, 2014, is the most watched daytime drama series in the world, seen daily by more than 35 million people in over 100 countries. “The Young and the Restless”, which celebrates its 41st anniversary on March 26, 2014 recently celebrated 25 years as the number one daytime drama in the United States.  Both shows are cornerstones of the CBS Daytime lineup.

 

Sandra Stern, Chief Operating Officer of Lionsgate Television, will receive the Excellence in Mentoring Award which will be presented to her by her Little Sister Melissa.  Stern co-runs the TV division with Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs.  Stern is responsible for running all business, legal, administrative and operation aspects of the division.  She spearheads its strategy, transactions, negotiations and business development, exploring innovative production, distribution and new media options to grow the television unit.  Stern’s contributions have been pivotal to Lionsgate’s emergence as a leading supplier of content to cable and broadcast networks including the critically-acclaimed series “Nashville,” “Mad Men,” ”Nurse Jackie,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Anger Management.”  Stern has mentored two Littles in the BBBSLA Women in Entertainment Mentoring Program in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter.  Her current Little Sister Melissa will be graduating from Roosevelt High School this spring.  With Stern’s guidance and support, she was awarded a full scholarship to Loyola Marymount University which was recently announced at the Hollywood Reporter Power 100 breakfast.  She will begin college in the fall.

 

Award-winning actor Fred Willard will present the Sterling Award to his good friend, educator, community activist and humanitarian Brindell Roberts Gottlieb.  Gottlieb is noted for her philanthropy and passion to make life better for many.  She credits her remarkable husband, the late Milton Gottlieb, for endowing her with the ability to extend his memory through her many commitments.  Gottlieb earned her B.A. and teaching credential from UCLA.  She taught adult education at Beverly Hills High School; wrote, directed and performed radio commercials; and owned and operated her antiques establishment, The Blue House, for 37 years.  She serves on the boards of  The Music Center, Center Theatre Group and LA Opera.  She is committed to the American Jewish Committee, the Children’s Burn Foundation, the Children’s Hospital and scholarships for UCLA students and has endowed Cedars-Sinai for continued heart research.

 

Founded in 1986, the Guild is dedicated to promoting awareness and raising financial support for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.  A volunteer group comprised of prominent women and men from the community, the Guild has raised over $10 million to support the one-to-one mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters.  In addition to the Accessories for Success Spring Luncheon, the Guild hosts its primary fundraising event, The Big Bash, Rising Stars Gala, to be held this year on Friday, October 24th.

 

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships that changes their lives for the better, forever.
