Rounding out our interviews during PaleyFest NY is with Scott M. Gimple. Showrunner of “The Walking Dead” franchise, we got to speak about moving season 3 of, “Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol,” will be set in Spain, explaining to us that it was mostly a creative decision with both David Zabel and Norman Reedus expressing interest in moving the story into the new setting.

One of the things we got some clarity on was the addition of Carol into the new season. There was some questions about if Carol was supposed to be in it from the start. Gimple set the record straight:

“It was all so complex with the timing and availability among other things. I gotta say, I’m just so thrilled at where it landed. The way we were able to do it, with the way that it worked out, the way this was built up even with a lot of circumstances, this worked. You get lucky.”

Gimple added about the upcoming Daryl and Carol reunion, including his thoughts on the two being apart for some time:

“Going away from it for a moment just only heightened all of our hunger for it. So, when we finally see them together, it’s like, “Oh, my God!” We did that in the original “Walking Dead,” where they were involved in their own stories for a long time before coming back together. I’d like to say there was an incredible master plan, but there were just a lot of things that came together.”

New episodes of, “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol” airs Sundays on AMC and AMC+.
