Executive Producers Sheila Ducksworth & Michele Val Jean
After 25 years, a new soap is on the horizon. CBS announced today that a new black centric soap, “The Gates,” has been given a series order. The soap, which will be run by executive producers Sheila Ducksworth and Michele Val Jean, is set to premiere in January 2025.
The news about “The Gates” comes hot off the heels of the announcement that daytime series, “The Talk,” has been canceled after a 15 year run. It is set to conclude in December 2024.
CBS Studios and NAACP will produce the series, alongside with a partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. “The Gates” will be the second soap opera in daytime history that a black family will be the focal point. In 1989, NBC introduced the first, which was, “Generations.” The soap starred Debbi Morgan, Vivica A. Fox, the late Kristoff St. John, Jonelle Allen, James Reynolds, Kelly Rutherford, and countless others.
In 1999, “Passions” was the last new soap to hit the NBC airwaves. After its cancellation in 2008, there has not been another new soap to debut in daytime television until now.
