The BUZZ Takes Flight on Bluesky: A New Era of Connection Begins

As many are leaving the X (formerly known as Twitter) platform, people are finding a great escape on Bluesky, a counterpart to the former. Surging in popularity since last week, the site reports that it has gained 18 million users. Bluesky previously was an invite-only platform until earlier this year and was created by former Twitter owner, Jack Dorsey.

Since the day after the election, according to SimilarWeb, 115,000 users deactivated their X accounts, and in December 2023, 65,000 deactivated their accounts when current owner Elon Musk restored conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to the platform.

While it has yet to gain the momentum and numbers of X users, people saw that Bluesky reminded them of the original days of Twitter. There are no ads currently and no premium services. A huge example as to another reason why people find Bluesky more enjoyable is that blocking feature. It was previously announced that X would allow visitors to still see blocked users’ posts. This certainly angered many, myself included, that users still have access to you when you do not want them to.

Some celebrities that have joined the Bluesky community include Quinta Brunson, Mark Hamill, Eric Braeden, Nancy Lee Grahn, Ben Stiller, plus many others.

The BUZZ also has joined the ranks of Bluesky this past week, and you are able to follow us on the new platform HERE.

Have you joined Bluesky? Are you enjoying the new social media platform? What do you hope to see improve and/or added to the network?
