The hits keep on coming! Following the news that Linda Gray was set to join the cast of the new web soap, “WINTERTHORNE,” TRadioV’s “SoapBox with Lilly and Martha” announced that another superb soap star is coming aboard. Kathleen Gati, who plays Dr. Liesl Obrecht on ABC’s “General Hospital,” is joining the cast as Valentina Winterthorne.
Series creator and Daytime Emmy nominee, Michael Caruso, released a statement on Gati’s casting:
“Kathleen Gati is a powerhouse actress who brings a richness and depth to every role she tackles. She is so much more than a traditional ‘villain.’ She really embodies all the layers required for a role like this. She is really going to turn up the heat in this role. All of us are dying to work with her.”
Gati’s Valentina is the on-screen sister of Gray’s Joanna. The character is described to be, “power hungry, and will stop at nothing to unearth the big family secret that Miranda (Martha Madison) is hiding. She is a strict follower of the old ways of the Winterthorne family, which caused a rift between her and her sister.”
Four time award-winning actress, Gati (Best Actress Award – Los Angeles Hungarian Film Festival) was born and raised in Canada by Hungarian immigrants and was brought up in an artistic environment. Her father was a symphony conductor and her mother an opera singer, so performing was in her blood. She started acting at the age of three, wrote, directed and starred in her first play at the age of eight. Studied ballet and acting till the age of eighteen, when she moved to New York to pursue her career. After performing in dozens of plays both on and off Broadway, as well as working in numerous roles on television and in film, Kathleen traveled to Hungary to film Goldberg Variations, for which she won the Hungarian Best Supporting Actress Award.
She subsequently stayed on in Hungary for several years, during which time she starred in multiple films, television series and movies of the week, winning additional awards along the way. Her performance in Hungary’s biggest hit of the ‘90s, We Never Die (Sose Halunk Meg), made her an extremely popular actress in Eastern and Central Europe. She returned to the states and has worked continuously in New York, Los Angeles and Canada.

On television, Kathleen Gati is best known for her recurring roles on General Hospital as Dr. Liesl Obrecht, the Chief Of Staff of General Hospital; two seasons on 24 as Anya Suvarov; Alphas, series regular on both the Drugstore (Hungary) and in the animation series Me Eloise with Tim Curry and Lynn Redgrave. She has also guested on Fairly Legal, Leverage, Covert Affairs, The Mentalist, Desperate Housewives, Cold Case, The League, Lie To Me, and many more.
Current roles include a recurring role on BET channel’s Being Mary Jane, a lead in feature A Play On Words, series regular in pilotContingency, and the lead in film Lifeline. Winterthorne begins three weeks of production in late March, both in and outside of the Los Angeles area. Gati joins previously announced cast members Martha Madison (Days of Our Lives, The Bay), Michael Caruso (DeVanity), Linda Gray (Dallas), Gordon Thomson (Dynasty, Santa Barbara) and Josh Thrower (90210, The Young and the Restless).
