We continue our coverage from this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego with Jesse Negron, who is the creator of the graphic novel, HYDE. Johnny Depp and Ridley Scott join forces with Mechanical Cake to bring this character to life in the novel.
HYDE features an incredible likeness to Depp as he was, and continues to be, an integral part in the direction of the character. Negron spoke about Depp’s collaboration with Mechanical Cake:
“The privilege of this whole thing is I never saw anyone different for the character. Johnny Depp IS Hyde. No matter what I had in my mind, he would do something, because that is what he does. He goes in and makes these really bold choices. He has incredible gut instinct. As you look back, he had these amazing characters that he did. As much as I had something in mind, he still threw us for a loop for when we rolled the camera. I don’t laugh at anything, because I am a cynical jerk, but I laughed at some things he did almost immediately.”
