After a decade-long wait, The Night Manager finally returns this Sunday — and the stakes have never been higher. Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) is back in the world of espionage, power, and deception, where greed rules and trust is a dangerous gamble. Enter Teddy Dos Santos — or is he really the villain we think he is?

Diego Calva joins the highly anticipated second season as Teddy, a character shaped by his past and guarded by necessity. Stopping by The BUZZ, Calva opened up about Teddy’s layered nature, explaining that his inability to trust stems from deep familial experiences rather than outright malice.

Calva also unpacked Teddy’s complex relationship with Jonathan — or rather, “Matthew,” Jonathan’s new identity this season. What unfolds between them is far more intimate and volatile than a typical adversarial dynamic.

“I think Teddy fell in love with Matthew in a way brothers do, and that is the most dangerous and tricky situation,” Calva shared. “If you can’t trust your brother, you don’t know if your brother is going to kill you or be on your side. It’s interesting to watch and interesting to act — but it’s so painful.”

Fans caught a glimpse of that tension in the season two trailer, which features a striking and sensual three-way dance sequence between Calva, Hiddleston, and Camila Morrone, who plays Roxana. Calva described the moment as an “espionage dance,” where no one is truly leading — and everyone’s masks begin to slip.

The Night Manager premieres Sunday, January 11, on Prime Video.
