The cast and crew of the hit sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, came together to celebrate 30 years of memories, laughter, and unforgettable stories. Hosted by Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal, fans have the opportunity to once again see Ray Barone’s living room and kitchen during this once-in-a-lifetime special, which featured appearances by Patricia Heaton, Brad Garrett, Monica Rosenthal (Horan), Madylin Sweeten and Sullivan Sweeten.
Filmed in front of a studio audience, the stars shared favorite episodes, memorable quotes, and even how they got their roles. There were also some surprise features in the special that I will not give away. One that shocked me in particular (which is the only spoiler I will give away) is that 200 women auditioned for the role of Debra before Heaton won out.
Aside from the laughter, the reunion shared a lot of heart as the cast and crew paid homage to those that we lost, most notably Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, the in-laws who stole almost any scene they were in. The show also acknowledged the losses of Georgia Engel and Sawyer Sweeten, and how everyone can help raise awareness on suicide prevention.
Everybody Loves Raymond‘s original run ran for nine seasons from 1996-2005, 210 episodes, and won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards out of its 69 nominations. The show continues to be loved by fans alike after 20 years since the finale and is watched on multiple streaming platforms and syndication.
This reunion special felt that no time was lost between the cast as the chemistry they had came running back as soon as they all hit the stage. For anyone who is a fan like I am, you will love what this reunion will bring.
As we gear up for the event, The BUZZ released a retrospective podcast episode highlighting the 30th anniversary event held at The Paley Center for Media in NYC. Cast and crew were interviewed on the red carpet to celebrate the exhibit which featured costumes/outfits worn by the cast, Emmy Award statuettes, and scripts. We were then treated to a panel discussion where never before seen footage was seen, including blooper reels, and fans got to ask questions the crew.
