During the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony this past weekend, Jimmy Kimmel won the award for, “Outstanding Game Show Host,” for his turn as host of, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” The original host, the late Regis Philbin, won this award 25 years ago at the Daytime Emmy Awards. Kimmel would thank Philbin for, “watching over all of us,” and then thanked him for giving us this show.

Deadline reports that Kimmel shared another anecdote during the ceremony. Kimmel previously won a Daytime Emmy Award for, “Outstanding Game Show Host,” in 1999 for, “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” He relived the moment and shared at how shocked he was to win this award, which was a first for Comedy Central. Kimmel then shared the fact that he felt ridiculous winning this award before Susan Lucci ever got to win hers. He would then proceed to hand Lucci his Emmy as she was sitting in the front row during the 1999 Daytime Emmy Award ceremony.

This may have been the good luck that Lucci needed! As fans recall, the actress, who is known to audiences for playing Erica Kane on, “All My Children,” from 1970-2011, was nominated 19 times for, “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series.” She would not win the coveted award…until 1999! The same year that Kimmel would hand Lucci his Emmy after his win, she would shortly hear her name announced by Shemar Moore: “THE STREAK IS OVER! SUSAN LUCCI!”

I guess we can thank Jimmy Kimmel for Susan Lucci finally winning her Daytime Emmy!

The 77th Emmy Awards are set to air on Sunday, September 14th, at 8 PM ET on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+.
