Michael Damian is known to many audiences as Danny Romalotti fromCBS Daytime‘s “The Young and the Restless,” a role he has played off and on since 1983. The actor/musician is set to appear in the next couple of episodes as the town of Genoa City gathers together to honor the memory of Katherine Chancellor. Michael, as Danny, will pay homage to Kay by performing a song at the service entitled, “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You,” which previously was heard in the special Jeanne Cooper tribute episode back in May. Michael shared with us what it was like to film these special memorial episodes:
“These were difficult shows to shoot, but there was something warm, beautiful, cheerful, and emotional about the two shows. I really feel that it was meant to be, and Katherine/Jeanne was with us all that warmth and love was right there on the set. Corbin (Bernsen), her son in real life, played such a integral role in this story. It was such a beautiful moment, and I was honored that they invited me to be a part of it. I know it was tough, but there was so much love on the set. I truly believe it will translate on-screen and everyone watching will feel it. I also think it will bring happiness and closure to our extended family who have been watching for years.”
While Danny may have been in Genoa City since 1983, it wouldn’t be until a year later in 1984 that he would finally meet Katherine Chancellor. We got to go down memory lane with Michael and talked about filming that first scene with Jeanne:
“Did you see how intense I was in that scene? (laughs) It was like I wanted to have her take me seriously! I remember that as clear as day, and it was the first time I worked with Jeanne. It was basically to fund a music video, and they actually showed that at the ‘Y&R’ Fan Club Dinner. It was so wild seeing that clip up there on-screen. Interesting story that no one knows, Tracey Bregmanand I joke about this. We have this ongoing gag, along with Jeanne, and Jeanne would say, ‘You never paid me back the money I loaned you, and you made it big.’ I mean, Katherine loans me the money, I made a music video, became a huge superstar, and never paid her back! (laughs)”
