The BUZZ recently chatted with Karen Gillan, director Lisa Steen, and screenwriter Anna Greenfield, to chat about the Indie film, “Late Bloomers.” The movie, which premiered at SXSW in 2023, sees Gillan’s character struggle with a recent breakup, which now includes a broken hip, which ultimately leads her to being a caretaker to a Polish woman who does not speak any English.
“Late Bloomers” comes with the tagline, “We all have to grow up sometime,” and it is evidenced by both Louise (Gillan) and Antonina (Margaret Sophie Stein). We spoke with Greenfield about how much of this movie was based off of her real-life experiences as well as what depictions resonated with myself as a viewer. Steen talked with us about a scene that showed Stein in a natural, fun light, while Gillan recalled what it was like working alongside the actress. We would then get into how the concept of the film came to the table.
After premiering at SXSW last year, “Late Bloomers” will now be premiering in theaters this Friday, June 7th. Check your local listings to find out where and when the film will be playing in your area.
