After it was announced that the show was set to return for a season two, Paramount+ has decided to instead cancel, “Dexter: Original Sin.” Variety first reported the news of the show’s cancelation.

Sources tell the outlet that the decision to not move forward with another season happened shortly after the closing of the Skydance-Paramount+ merger. They also mentioned to the entertainment news outlet that the streamer wants to shift focus on, “Dexter: Resurrection,” and Michael C. Hall continuing his role as the title character. Word is that the show was on hiatus with no plans to shoot a second season. Production dates also were not scheduled.

Originally announced in April for a second season, young Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) starts his way in the forensics lab shortly after graduating college in 1991. Fans got to see how Dexter’s love of killing not-so-innocent people came to fruition. The series starred Gibson, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Christian Slater, Molly Brown, Reno Wilson, Alex Shimizu, Patrick Dempsey, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
