After the revelation that Billy Miller is exiting the role of Billy Abbott on CBS Daytime’s “The Young and the Restless,” it was soon announced that David Tom would be returning to the role. The actor played the part from 1999-2002, and also won a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance.
TV Guide’s Michael Logan posted the scoop from a “Y&R” rep:
“The show wanted Billy Miller to stay and worked hard to make that happen but we are going in another direction now. We are very excited to have David Tom back in the role. Not only is he a terrific actor, it will give us an opportunity to dig into our archives and use some of those great old Glow by Jabot flashbacks. We say a big thank you to Billy Miller and wish him well in all his future endeavors.”
CBS Daytime’s Senior Vice President, Angelica McDaniel, had this to add as well:
“All of us at CBS Daytime and THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS are thrilled to welcome David Tom back to the Emmy Award-winning role he created. We have a lot planned for the character of Billy in 2014, and we’re excited to see David play out the storyline.”
Billy Miller will last be seen on-screen on January 30, and David Tom will first air on-screen on February 3, 2014.
Billy Miller will be missed. Especially those hot scenes with “Victoria”. But I’m tired of the sadness.
