David Letterman may be the king of late night, but does he have what it takes to be the king of daytime? On an episode of the “Late Show,” the host decided to audition for a role on the CBS Daytime soap, “The Young and the Restless.” Using footage of Phyllis’ (Gina Tognoni) return to Genoa City, Letterman made great use of the “tag scene” in his audition tape.

This is not the first time Letterman incorporated “Y&R” into its broadcast. Several months prior, he introduced “Y&R” style opening credits which featured the “Late Show” roster, while also keeping in Sean Carrigan’s (Ben “Stitch” Rayburn) actual opener pose in the sequence.
