It’s official. After news broke out that Charles Pratt, Jr. has left his duties at “The Young and the Restless,” it has been announced that the new head writer of the daytime soap is Sally Sussman. News was first hinted by Daytime Confidential, and TV Line broke the news that Pratt is set to work on Lee Daniels’ new project, “Star.”

Sussman, who started her career at “Y&R” in the early 1980s, is an Emmy and Writers Guild of America Award winner. She started off as Story Consultant, before becoming the Associate Head Writer. From there, she would create the groundbreaking daytime series, “Generations,” which featured Vivica A. Fox, and current “Y&R” star, Kristoff St. John. Sussman would proceed to then head write for NBC’s “Days of our Lives,” followed by working on the MTV soap, “Spyder Games.” She would soon return to “Y&R” as Story Consultant and then Co-Head Writer.

Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming for Sony Pictures Television, released this statement:

“Sally was part of the team that first brought Y&R to its long-standing position as America’s #1 daytime drama and brings with her years of experience writing serialized storylines. Her long-standing familiarity with the citizens of Genoa City and her great storytelling make her a perfect choice to take the reins at Y&R.”

Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs and Syndicated Program Development, CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution, also had this to say with Sussman returning:

“We are thrilled to have Sally return to The Young and The Restless, both as an award-winning writer, and someone who is passionate about honoring the legacy of the series with character driven story. The powerhouse partnership of Sally and Mal Young, our talented new Executive Producer, sets an even brighter course for daytime’s #1 drama.”

We at the BUZZ are thrilled to welcome back Sally Sussman in the head writing reigns at “The Young and the Restless.”
