Soap Vet JOHN CALLAHAN Dead at 66

John Callahan

Shocking news in the soap community struck this Saturday, as Soap Opera Network reports that John Callahan has passed away due to complications from a stroke.

According to SON, a rep close to the actor died unexpectedly this morning, March 28th, after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Palm Desert, CA, the night before. His daughter, Kaya Callahan, and ex-wife, Eva LaRue, were able to see Callahan, but due to COVID-19 restrictions in place in hospitals, they had to leave. They would be notified of his passing via phone.

LaRue issued a statement regarding Callahan’s death:

“We are extremely saddened and distraught over the loss of John.  He was my great friend, co-parent and an amazing father to Kaya. The absence of his bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. Words cannot express the shock and devastation we are feeling at this time. The Yankees just lost one of their greatest fans.”

Callahan is known to many fans for his portrayal of Edmund Grey on ABC Daytime’s, “All My Children.” He played the role from 1992-2005, where he was introduced as Dimitri Merrick’s brother. He would eventually meet LaRue at the series in 1993.

Prior to joining “AMC,” he also had roles on “Falcon Crest,” and, “Santa Barbara.” His last soap role was on, “Days of our Lives,” and a role on the Amazon Prime series, “Ladies of the Lake.”

We at the BUZZ pass along our sincerest condolences to John Callahan’s family.

The actor was 66.
