The sand will continue to fall through the hourglass, as NBC has announced that “Days of our Lives” has been renewed for a spectacular 55th season! According to Deadline, “DAYS” had a solid increase during the 53rd season, gaining a 4% increase in total viewers.

This past Daytime Emmy Award ceremony saw the series take home a slew of award wins, including “Outstanding Writing Team,” and “Outstanding Drama Series.”

Bruce Evans, Executive Vice President, Current Programming, NBC Entertainment, released a statement on the show’s renewal:

“With writing that manages to weave together Salem’s iconic characters with current realities, Ken Corday and his team have ushered the show’s legacy into a new era that resonates with both longtime and new viewers. The actors and crew have such a tremendous respect for ‘Days’ and what it means to fans. We believe that level of commitment shows through and touches our audience year after year.”

Ken Corday, the show’s executive producer, also added his own comments:

“It’s a great day in Salem! The sands in the hourglass will continue to flow for yet another year. We’re grateful to NBC and Sony for their continued support of the show and, of course, to our dedicated and passionate fans, we owe it all to you. Thank you for taking us through our 55th season. We can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.”

Executive Vice President, Programming, Sony Pictures Television, Steve Kent, had this to follow up with:

“Ken Corday and his cast and crew continue to build on the strong legacy of dynamic storytelling and intriguing characters in ‘Days of our Lives.’ We are proud that audiences both in the U.S. and around the world will get to enjoy this award-winning series for another year.”

Ron Carlivati, the show’s head writer, has managed to bring a complexity to the fictional town of Salem that was missing for several years. While the show has made incredible use of its veteran actors, the new, younger talent has also been given their time to shine. From the hot romance of Ben and Ciara, to Marlena/Hattie and Bonnie/Adrienne, to the return of Jack Devereaux, “Days” has been able to recapture those missing elements of romance, intrigue, and camp that made the show popular for many years.

“Days of our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC Daytime.
