RUMOR REPORT: What Megyn Kelly Joining NBC Means for “Days of our Lives”

Recently, it has been reported that Megyn Kelly would be leaving the FOX News Channel, and joining NBC in a yet to be decided role. However, speculation has been running rampant as to exactly what would that mean for the peacock’s lone soap.

PEOPLE writes that a source told the popular magazine that the upcoming year for “Days of our Lives” would be its last. As the show is renewed on a year-to-year basis, the current contract carries the show through 2017.

“Basically, we’ve heard that there won’t be a ‘Days’ in 2018,” says the source connected to the show, per PEOPLE.

While “DAYS” airs mostly in the 1-2 PM timeslot, the Philadelphia and soon-to-be New York affiliates, will begin to air the soap at 12 PM.

According to the article, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack has offered Kelly three new gigs, which one includes a daytime news and discussion program.

Since 2009, soaps have been canceled in favor of less-to-produce game and talk shows. “Guiding Light” was canceled on CBS that year, which would be replaced by the “Let’s Make a Deal” reboot. The following year, “As The World Turns” bid farewell, and replaced with, “The Talk.”

in 2011, ABC shocked fans when it was announced that two of its soaps were coming to an end. “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” were canceled in favor of the talk/cooking show, “The Chew,” and “The Revolution,” with the latter only lasting less than 2 months on air due to horrible ratings.

However, articles in recent years have been posting positive reports that soaps have faced such a resurgence, and are better than before. Using social media, as well as cross-promotion on CBS’ “The Talk,” have brought soaps back into the forefront. In October, “The Talk” celebrated CBS Daytime’s 30th year as #1 with reuniting cast members from “ATWT and “GL.” The show is also famous for having the Daytime Emmy Award winners on their show following the ceremony.

A post from a “DAYS” cast member calls the PEOPLE article comments, “Doubtful.”

    1. I heard that, as well. It seems to be a lot of conflicting reports. One that says that, and others that continue to say her role at NBC is still undecided.

      1. Interesting. However, since CBS will have the ability to drag Days over to their network before long…I don’t think there’s a strong possibility of the show actually leaving the air.
