Just shortly after it was announced that Sally Sussman was returning to “The Young and the Restless” as head writer, Daytime Confidential broke word that Kay Alden is also set to come back as Story Consultant after a 10-year absence.

Alden joined “Y&R” just six months after its premiere in 1973 as script writer. She would become head writer of the series from 1998-2006.

Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs and Syndicated Program Development, CBS Entertainment and CBS Television Distribution, released a statement to DC:

“Welcoming Kay back to The Young and the Restless, joining Sally Sussman and Mal Young [executive producer], continues our commitment to telling the most powerful stories while honoring the legacy of daytime’s No. 1 drama.”

After leaving “Y&R” in 2006, Alden served as Story Consultant on “All My Children,” “One Life to Live,” and “General Hospital” up until 2007. The following year, she moved back to CBS Daytime as Associate Head Writer on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” before becoming Co-Head Writer. Alden would hold that position until 2013.
