When soaps first began on television from their transition from radio, it would air live weekday afternoons in black and white. It would be several years later when it would go to live to tape function, but some thought that soaps would never air live again. Fortunately, we will get to see this action yet again!

Back in 2002, the former ABC soap, “One Life to Live” aired a full week of live shows, which a majority centered around the climax of Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva) learning that Todd Manning (Roger Howarth) lied about Blair’s child. This May, the alphabet network’s lone soap, “General Hospital,” is set to air live episodes for two days! This also serves as a continuation of the show’s 52nd anniversary celebration.

PEOPLE broke this incredible news, and executive producer, Frank Valentini, released a statement:

“Taking such an iconic show as General Hospital live for two days is both exhilarating and risky .I am enormously proud of our cast, crew and staff for all their tireless dedication and hard work that will be leading up to this daytime television event. It’s live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what’s fun about this and we’re absolutely up to the challenge.”

The special LIVE episodes of “General Hospital” are set to air May 15 and 18 on ABC Daytime.
